Our organization was created in 1971 to provide essential services to individuals with disabilities and special needs and to offer much needed assistance to their families. Over the last five decades, we have been able to expand our range of services. With locations in Abbeville, Edgefield, Greenwood, Lexington, McCormick, Ware Shoals, and Saluda counties, Burton Center's staff of 325, assists over 500 people. Our services are provided free of charge to those who meet specific eligibility criteria by the South Carolina Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. About the Position
This is a part-time position on a rotating weekend schedule. The hours are 6am - 6pm (Saturday and Sunday). This role will be supporting individuals in two Intermediate Care Facilities in Greenwood, SC. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, your role will be crucial in providing quality health maintenance, preventing illness and accidents, and supervising overall medication administration.
Working closely with the Director of Nursing, Operations Directors, primary care physicians, and individuals and their families, you will have the opportunity to fulfill Burton Center's mission to develop and discover unlimited potential in adults with disabilities and special needs! By taking the time to connect and support individuals, you will be able to teach adults about their medications and how to safely self-administer them according to a defined teaching program to reach behavioral objectives. All medications must be administered and documented according to the approved schedule for each individual. Thorough documentation is necessary to monitor individuals' progress and reaction to medications, while also keeping your LPN coworkers and individuals' primary care team up to date. After initial medical assessments are made, the LPN will continue developmental assessments yearly or as scheduled by the Director of Nursing. Together with LPN staff, you will be monitoring and scheduling laboratory work, advocating for individuals' during wellness checkups and evaluations, and attending meetings to review and prepare psychotropic drug reports.
Consistently monitoring individuals is essential to ensure accurate monthly wellness reports, maintain up‑to‑date medication supplies, and prevent accidents or injuries. Living areas for individuals must be inspected for healthy and proactive safety conditions to complete a monthly infection control report. Being able to step in with direct support during emergencies and accompany individuals to hospital visits is a key responsibility in this role.
Qualifications
Nursing degree from an accredited school
Valid SC Driver's License
One year of experience working with individuals with disabilities or special needs
Current SC Board of Nursing License
Clear oral and written communication skills
Lift 25lbs frequently and 50lbs occasionally

All newly hired Burton Center staff must complete a mandatory in-person orientation, MedTech, and complete all assigned online training prior to on-the-job training. Orientation is held once a month, over the course of three days, from 9am-5pm.
