PRIMARY PURPOSE: Ave Maria University is seeking a dependable and service-oriented individual to join our Department of Safety and Security as a Part-Time Overnight Security Officer. This is an unarmed position. The officer is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming campus environment during overnight hours, serving as a visible, professional presence on campus, responding to incidents and emergencies, and supporting the overall mission of the University by upholding its Catholic identity and values.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct regular foot and vehicle patrols of the campus, including buildings, parking lots, residence halls, and grounds, to deter unauthorized activity and ensure the safety of students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
- Monitor and control access to campus facilities during overnight hours, verifying the identity and authorization of individuals seeking entry.
- Respond promptly to alarms, emergency calls, reports of suspicious activity, and requests for assistance; coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency services as needed.
- Prepare accurate and timely written incident reports documenting observations, actions taken, and any policy violations or safety concerns observed during the shift.
- Assist in maintaining compliance with applicable safety regulations.
- Provide courteous assistance and information to students and campus community members, reflecting the University's commitment to hospitality and service.
- Secure and lock campus buildings and facilities at designated times in accordance with established procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Safety and Security Coordinator or university leadership.
EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
EXPERIENCE: Valid Florida driver's license without any serious traffic offenses within the last 3 years.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Ability to work overnight shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to prepare clear and accurate incident reports.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in campus security, law enforcement, military, or related field.
- CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain upon hire.
- Familiarity with campus safety systems, access control technology, or security software.
PHYSICAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: The officer must be able to stand, walk, and remain active for extended periods. Physical ability to patrol campus on foot, bicycle and by vehicle, including climbing stairs and remaining alert during overnight hours. The overnight schedule requires alertness and professionalism in a low-supervision environment. The position may require occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds and operation of a campus vehicle.
WORKING CONDITIONS: This position requires working outdoors in varying Florida weather conditions, including heat and humidity.
