POSITION SUMMARY

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is excited to add a Part Time Volunteer Recreation Assistant to the team! This position will work up to 19 hours per week and will support our Volunteer Coordinator. The incumbent will participate in meeting with and leading volunteer groups during outdoor projects or at facility events, assist with administrative tasks, such as creating newsletters and flyers and updating volunteer calendars/schedules, and compiling and/or entering attendance data for monthly and annual reporting. The selected candidate will also have the opportunity to attend Department and community engagement opportunities, such as job fairs and resource events, where volunteer and/or Department information is distributed. This position will perform job duties indoors and outdoors, and the schedule will include weekdays and/or Saturdays as needed based on business needs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Provide customer service and/or handling of funds in a recreation center or park facility through telephone, emails, web site, social media and walk in patrons and customers for volunteer information, program registration, center daily use and rentals
• Ensure safety of participants/spectators and administer first aid when necessary
• Enforce rules and regulations
• Assist in light maintenance of facilities and recreational areas
• Assist with various volunteer and recreational programs for all ages
• Handle inquiries and complaints from public
• May assist with special events and field trips

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: No experience required.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent

Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted?: N/A

Licenses and Certifications: Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License and County Driving Privileges; CPR/First Aid

Computer Skills: General knowledge of various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite
