Position Summary

The Part-Time Research Assistant independently implements research procedures and supports day-to-day study operations for federally funded behavioral and clinical research studies. This position assumes responsibility for participant management, data quality, technical implementation of research systems, mentoring junior staff, and contributing to scientific dissemination under the direction of the Study Coordinator and investigators.

Duties and Responsibilities

Participant Recruitment & Engagement

  • Collaborate on local and national participant recruitment, enrollment, and retention efforts.
  • Coordinate participant scheduling and monitor participant progress throughout study participation.
  • Coordinate participant compensation activities and maintain required documentation.
  • Coordinate Parent Advisory Council meetings, prepare meeting materials, document discussions, and facilitate communication with members.

Study Implementation & Data Collection

  • Implement study protocols involving surveys, interviews, 7-day EMA, and recorded family interactions.
  • Build, manage, and troubleshoot electronic survey packets and EMA systems.
  • Conduct virtual study visits including surveys, interviews, and family interaction sessions following established protocols.
  • Conduct virtual study visits with Spanish-speaking participants and families, as assigned.
  • Assist with oversight of informed consent, assent, and study documentation.

Data Management & Quality Assurance

  • Perform data entry, verification, coding, quality assurance, and data management.
  • Code interview and family interaction recordings while maintaining coding reliability.
  • Code Spanish-language interviews and family interaction recordings, as assigned.
  • Assist with data analysis and interpretation.
  • Identify protocol deviations and contribute to corrective actions.

Research Operations & Communication

  • Maintain and update the study website, including participant resources, recruitment materials, and study announcements.
  • Monitor website inquiries and coordinate responses with study leadership.
  • Mentor Research Assistant I staff and student assistants.
  • Participate in research team meetings.
  • Assist with preparation of abstracts, manuscripts, presentations, and dissemination activities.

Other Responsibilities

  • Perform other research-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience

Education

  • Required: Bachelors Degree OR equivalent training acquired via work experience or education
  • Preferred: Bachelors Degree

Experience

  • Required: None
  • Preferred: 1-2 years of previous job-related experience

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing, public health, psychology, social work, health sciences, or another health-related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum of one to two years of experience supporting clinical, behavioral, or community-based research studies.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate virtual participant study visits.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or graduate degree in nursing (BSN, MSN, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Previous experience working with individuals and families living with spina bifida or other chronic health or complex care condition.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Knowledge, understanding, and commitment to the mission and values of Loyola University Chicago and the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing

Certificates/Credentials/Licenses

Bachelor's degree in nursing, public health, psychology, social work, health sciences, or another health-related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
