Summary

The Part-Time Scribe/Reader provides academic accommodations to students with documented disabilities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and CCC policies. This non-instructional support role ensures equitable access to assessments and classroom materials by reading exam or course content aloud and/or accurately transcribing student responses. The role requires discretion, professionalism, and a commitment to maintaining academic integrity. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Scribe Duties

  • Accurately transcribe verbal responses from students during quizzes, exams, or assignments without altering or correcting language.
  • Handwrite or type responses according to student instructions and testing guidelines.
  • Ensure all work reflects the student's original responses.

Reader Duties

  • Read exam instructions and classroom materials aloud in a clear, neutral, and consistent manner.
  • Re-read passages or questions upon request without providing interpretation or commentary.
  • Verbally describe charts, diagrams, or visual content as required by accommodations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

General Support Duties:

  • Arrive punctually and remain for the full duration of scheduled sessions.
  • Collaborate with faculty and Disability Resources staff to uphold academic integrity.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of student information and testing materials in accordance with FERPA.
  • Report any issues or concerns to Disability Resources staff promptly.
  • Provide support professionally and neutrally, without giving hints, coaching, or interpreting content.

Minimum Qualifications

  • One year of relevant experience or an associate's degree.
  • Strong verbal communication and active listening skills.
  • Clear, legible handwriting or the ability to type accurately and efficiently.
  • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and professional conduct.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain neutrality when supporting students.
  • Sensitivity to the needs and rights of students with disabilities.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards in academic settings.

Part-time employees working 20 hours or more per week for at least 20 weeks within the fiscal year (July 1-June 30) are eligible to participate in the Arizona State Retirement System and receive tuition waiver benefits.
