Description
Under limited supervision, a Senior Park Ranger is responsible for overseeing field activities for Park Rangers during their assigned shift. The incumbent should be comfortable leading briefings, conducting training, writing reports, and reviewing the work of Park Rangers on shift. A successful candidate should be able to multitask, have time management skills, and have strong verbal and written communication skills. A Senior Park Ranger will maintain cooperative working relationships with internal departments as well as outside agencies. This position will be required to work some nights, weekends, and holidays and must be able to work up to 32 hours a week.
This position operates seven (7) days per week, including weekends and holidays.
Employees are assigned to a primary shift upon hire. While staff are generally scheduled within their assigned shift, work schedules, days, and hours may be adjusted based on operational needs, including City events, special assignments, staffing needs, training, and other program requirements. Employees may be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
Senior Park Ranger is the lead level classification in the Park Ranger/ Senior Park Ranger series. Incumbents at this level coordinate the field activities of multiple Park Rangers and perform the most complex and sensitive duties assigned.

Qualifications
Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of experience as a City of Anaheim Park Ranger. An equivalent combination of experience and training sufficient to perform the essential job functions and provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying.

License/Certification Required: Possession of a valid California Drivers License and Defensive Driver Training by date of appointment. Possession of current AED, CPR, and First-Aid certification by date of appointment.
Note: Possession of a current (less than two years) tuberculosis clearance slip by date of appointment. Fingerprinting at the time of hire is a state-mandated requirement for all employees having direct contact with minors.
Supplemental Information
This is a part-time position usually averaging 20-32 hours per week. A minimum number of hours is not guaranteed.

Criteria for Management Evaluation will be: Qualifications 75%, Record of Performance 20%, and Seniority 5%.

RETIREMENT BENEFITS - The City contracts with the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) to provide retirement benefits. Retirement formula is based on appointment date and membership status with CalPERS.
Part-time eligible employees become members of CalPERS as either Classic or New members.
Part-time employees not eligible for CalPERS are required to participate in the City's part-time 457 plan, as a replacement plan for Social Security.
