Health Promotion at Indiana University-Bloomington supports student success through a holistic and integrated approach to wellbeing. Health Promotion provides a broad range of prevention, education, and intervention services grounded in evidence-based practices, assessment, and evaluation. Core service areas include Substance Use Intervention Services, a Collegiate Recovery Community, Nutrition Services, and Health Education and Outreach, which offers workshops on topics such as mental health, sexual health education, hazing prevention, and alcohol and other drugs prevention. Together, these programs advance student wellbeing and contribute to a healthier, more thriving campus community.

Job Summary

The Health Promotion Student Intern supports campus-wide wellbeing initiatives through outreach, education, program planning, communication, and administrative support. This non-clinical internship provides hands-on experience in health promotion, student engagement, prevention programming, and wellness education within a university setting.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

• Assists with evidence-informed initiatives that promote student wellbeing in areas such as mental health, substance use prevention, nutrition, sexual health, stress management, recovery support, hazing prevention and healthy lifestyles.
• Assists with planning, promoting, and implementing health promotion programs and campus events.
• Supports educational outreach efforts including tabling, presentations, workshops, and awareness campaigns.
• Develops marketing and communication materials using platforms such as Canva and social media.
• Assists with data collection, participant feedback, and program evaluation activities.
• Maintains program records, supplies, and resource materials.
• Collaborates with student organizations and campus partners to support wellbeing initiatives.
• Participates in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
• Provides general administrative support and completes additional duties as assigned.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required

• Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at Indiana University Bloomington.

SKILLS

Required

• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Organizational skills with attention to detail and time management.
• Commitment to creating a welcoming environment for all students.
• Knowledge or interest in health promotion, public health, student wellbeing, prevention, or wellness programming.

Preferred

• Experience with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Canva, or social media platforms.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. It involves both sedentary work and periods of movement around an office environment and the campus. The person in this position must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Additional Information

This position is work-study eligible.

This position will begin working in January 2027 through the academic spring term.

Advertised Salary

$14.00 per hour

Work Hours

10-15 hours per week during the academic year, flexible scheduling based on availability and department needs

No more than 29 hours per week across all IU jobs.

This is an academic position with no hours available during the summer break.
