General Function

General Function

The Student Success Specialist supports the mission of Greenwood Laboratory School by fostering a positive, student-centered environment focused on growth, belonging, responsibility, accountability, and student success. This position works collaboratively with students, faculty, families, and administration to help students thrive academically, socially, behaviorally, and personally within Greenwood's rigorous college preparatory setting.

The Student Success Specialist serves as a visible and supportive presence in the daily life of the school and helps cultivate a culture where students are encouraged to develop character, leadership, resilience, and the habits necessary to reach their full potential. The position also assists in upholding school expectations for student conduct and supports the administration of student discipline and behavioral interventions consistent with school policy and administrative direction.

  • Build strong, positive relationships with students and serve as a consistent and supportive adult presence.
  • Support student success by helping students develop responsibility, self-awareness, communication skills, organization, and positive decision-making habits.
  • Collaborate with faculty, counselors, and administration to proactively support students experiencing academic, behavioral, attendance, or social-emotional challenges.
  • Assist in fostering a safe, respectful, inclusive, and engaging school culture aligned with Greenwood's mission and values.
  • Support teachers and administrators in addressing student behavioral and disciplinary concerns through coaching, restorative conversations, problem-solving, behavioral interventions, and developmentally appropriate accountability measures, including the assignment of student consequences when appropriate.
  • Help students navigate interpersonal conflict and challenges in ways that encourage reflection, growth, and personal responsibility.
  • Assist in the implementation of student discipline procedures and behavioral expectations in accordance with school policy and administrative guidance.
  • Provide supervision and student support during passing periods, lunch periods, activities, and other school functions.
  • Partner and communicate effectively with families regarding student support, student growth, behavioral expectations, and school policies.
  • Assist with attendance monitoring and intervention efforts designed to improve student engagement and success.
  • Support school safety procedures and contribute to a positive and orderly learning environment.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation related to student support, discipline, and intervention efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or designee.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

  • Master's degree in educational administration, educational leadership, counseling, or a related field required.
  • Valid Missouri teacher or principal certification required.
  • Minimum of five years of successful experience working in a school setting required.
  • School administrative experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive and productive relationships with students, families, faculty, and staff.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills required.
  • Ability to support students with professionalism, empathy, consistency, and sound judgment.
  • Experience supporting student development, school culture, student services, restorative practices, or student discipline preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise appropriate professional discretion.
