Pay Schedule I, Grade 18, Regular Schedule: 40 hours per week

A vacancy exits in the Department of Public Works and Transportation, Bureau of Highways and Equipment Maintenance.

Job Purpose

Under general supervision, assists in the receipt, storage, and issuance of complex vehicle and/or heavy equipment tools, equipment, materials and supplies.

Essential Job Duties

  • Receives, stores, and issues a wide variety of complex vehicle and/or heavy equipment tools, equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Packages materials for distribution within the agency according to various schedules and allocations.
  • Uses computer to maintain inventory accounting records of materials received and issued.
  • Takes periodic inventory of stock on hand.
  • Purchases routine parts.
  • Reconciles procurement card statements.
  • Maintains related records and files.
  • Verifies fixed assets inventory.
  • Adds and deletes items in database and correct errors.
  • Operates forklift, and other related warehouse equipment.
  • Drives van truck to deliver or pick up materials and supplies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Entry Level)

Knowledge of:

  • Shipping, receiving, and warehouse operations practices
  • Storeroom and warehouse inventory management practices and stock control
  • Safety practices in parts storage and handling
  • Procurement procedures, purchase orders, and vendor sourcing

Skills in:

  • Identifying correct parts utilizing diagrams, schematics, photos, or component description
  • Utilizing inventory software such as FASTER or similar systems
  • Organizing stockrooms, labeling systems, and parts tracking methods
  • Vendor communication and quote comparison

Ability to:

  • Cross-reference part numbers between OEM and aftermarket suppliers
  • Lift, move, and store parts safely and efficiently
  • Adapt to changes in inventory, fleet needs, or procurement processes
  • Learn and apply new catalog systems, software, or equipment specifications

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent;

Plus

Two years storekeeping and warehousing experience, one year of which involved responsible experience in the storage and issuance of vehicle or heavy equipment parts and supplies, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Licenses and Certificates

Possession of a valid drivers license equivalent to a non-commercial, class C Maryland drivers license is required at the time of appointment.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE

Salary

Annual Salary review - Step increases may be granted on anniversary date based on satisfactory job performance

General Increases - Cost of living increases and adjustments may be granted as legislated.

Longevity Increases - In accordance with the specific pay schedule, a full-time merit or classified employee may receive a longevity increase, equivalent to one step, upon completion of a certain number of years of classified service with the County.
