Job Title: Party Chief - Topographic Surveying Job Description This role leads a two-person field crew focused on topographic surveying projects in Seattle and surrounding areas north of the city. The Party Chief plans and executes field surveys, ensures data accuracy, and supports the production of high-quality topographic maps and related deliverables. This position suits an experienced land survey professional who enjoys autonomy, minimal micromanagement, and working as part of a tight-knit, long-tenured team. Responsibilities + Lead a two-person survey crew on topographic surveying projects in Seattle and areas north of the city. + Plan, organize, and execute field survey activities to support topographic mapping and related deliverables. + Perform topographic surveys and land surveys, ensuring accurate data collection and proper field procedures. + Collect, record, and verify survey data using Trimble GPS, Leica, and other survey instruments and equipment. + Support boundary survey work and ALTA surveys as needed by collecting and documenting relevant field data. + Conduct construction staking activities when required, ensuring layout accuracy and adherence to project specifications. + Coordinate daily work plans, including crew assignments, field priorities, and project sequencing. + Communicate effectively with project teams using electronic tools and dispatch information provided in advance. + Ensure all field work follows applicable standards, safety practices, and company procedures. + Troubleshoot field issues, adjust methods as needed, and ensure timely completion of assigned projects. + Collaborate with office staff to transfer field data and support the creation of topographic maps and survey deliverables. + Mentor and guide crew members to maintain high-quality work and efficient field operations. Essential Skills + 5-10 years of land surveying experience. + Proven experience with topographic surveys and topographic mapping. + Demonstrated experience running and leading survey crews. + Hands-on experience with land surveying, topographic surveys, and survey data collection. + Proficiency with Trimble GPS equipment or comparable survey instruments. + Ability to support boundary survey work and ALTA surveys in the field. + Strong understanding of construction staking principles and practices. + Ability to read and interpret survey plans, topographic maps, and construction documents. + Effective communication skills for coordinating with crews and project teams. + Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in all survey activities. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Preferred experience with Trimble and/or Leica survey equipment. + Experience working with boundary survey software and related tools. + Experience in construction-related surveying and topography work. + Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while leading a crew. + Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and priorities. + Interest in working with a long-tenured, collaborative survey team. Work Environment The role operates within a consulting firm environment where survey crews typically work in pairs in the field. Projects are primarily located in Seattle and areas to the north, with a focus on topographic surveying and related land survey work. Communication and dispatching are handled electronically, and schedules are provided well in advance so crews can dispatch directly to the job site without reporting to the office when not necessary. The team culture is tight-knit and laid back, with a management philosophy that emphasizes trust, autonomy, and minimal micromanagement. The group is long-tenured and collaborative, creating a supportive and stable work environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lynnwood, WA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $34.00 - $38.00/hr.
