Job Summary
This role provides technical and operational leadership within the Planar Sensor Element (PSE) Paste Lab. The Paste Lab Technician will be responsible for developing and refining lab processes, training operators, and ensuring the proper function and calibration of all lab equipment. This individual will act as a key liaison between the lab operators and the engineering team to drive continuous improvement, enhance technical competence, and maintain the highest quality standards for paste materials.
As a Lab leader, this role guides the team''s technical work and operational excellence. While it does not have direct disciplinary authority, the Paste Lab Technician will provide input to the Group Leader in evaluating operator performance and training.
Key Responsibilities
- Performs all duties of a Paste Lab Operator, serving as the primary technical expert and mentor for the lab.
- Works with Manufacturing Engineer to develop, document, and implement new and existing lab processes and work instructions to improve efficiency and quality.
- Leads the technical training, certification, and ongoing mentorship for all Paste Lab Operators on procedures, safety, quality control, and equipment operation.
- Works directly with the PSE Engineering team to review, refine, and improve technical documentation, ensuring that procedures are accurate and effective.
- Manages the calibration and verification of all measurement equipment to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Conducts routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs on laboratory equipment to ensure optimal uptime.
- Prepares sensor element pastes according to specific recipes, including the precise handling and testing of precious metals.
- Conducts all required quality control tests on raw materials and finished paste.
- Maintains accurate records and a clean and orderly work environment, adhering to 5S standards.
- Monitors inventory of lab supplies and paste materials.
- Leads and participates in continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
Required:
- Associate''s Degree in Chemical Technology or a closely related scientific discipline.
- Proven, hands-on experience working directly in a chemical laboratory environment.
- Direct experience with the preparation, handling, and quality control of chemical mixtures, pastes, inks, or similar formulations.
- High attention to detail and excellent manual dexterity, required for the precise preparation of sensitive materials.
- Ability to read and interpret complex technical instructions and procedures.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office).
Preferred:
- Certifications or specialized training in laboratory methods (e.g., GLP - Good Laboratory Practices).
- Previous experience in a similar leadership, mentorship, or training role.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001).
Working Conditions
- Ability to work in a manufacturing cleanroom laboratory environment with exposure to chemicals and materials used in paste formulation
- Ability to wear required cleanroom attire and personal protective equipment (PPE) for extended periods
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift and move materials/equipment up to 50lbs
