    About Tacit

We are an early-stage, deep tech startup based in San Francisco, developing innovative hardware that rethinks human-computer interaction. We are backed by General Catalyst, Khosla Ventures, and Greylock Partners, with a founding team from Stanford, BrainGate, Oculus, and Tesla. While we can’t reveal too much just yet, our team is tackling cutting-edge engineering challenges to bring revolutionary products to life.

    About the role

We’re looking for a Patent Agent to own and drive our patent prosecution strategy. This role is ideal for someone who has deep experience at a top-tier law firm and is ready to work more autonomously, partnering closely with technical teams to protect and grow a sophisticated IP portfolio.

    What you'll do

    • Lead patent prosecution efforts from invention disclosure through issuance

    • Draft, file, and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications with minimal oversight

    • Advise internal stakeholders on patentability, freedom-to-operate, and portfolio strategy

    • Collaborate directly with engineers, researchers, and leadership on invention development

    • Manage outside counsel as needed and review their work for quality and strategy

    • Help shape long-term IP strategy aligned with company product and research roadmap

    Strong candidates may have

    • 4+ years of experience as a Patent Agent at a top law firm

    • Strong background in electrical engineering or a closely related technical field

    • Advanced technical degree preferred (Master’s or PhD strongly desired)

    • Registered to practice before the USPTO

    • Proven ability to manage patent prosecution independently

    • Clear communicator who can translate complex technical concepts into strong patent claims

    Compensation Range

    $180,000 - $200,000/year

    Benefits

    • Competitive equity compensation

    • Comprehensive health, vision, and dental insurance

    • Company size: 20-30 people

    • Visa sponsorship

    • Unlimited PTO

    • 4% 401k matching
