The Pathologist Lead Speech Language will manage and supervise all activities of Speech Language Pathologists and Assistant Speech Language Pathologists to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local policies/procedures. The incumbent will provide quality professional development for Speech Language Pathologists and Assistant Speech Language Pathologists based on best practices. The incumbent will also maintain accurate inventory of evaluation materials. They will monitor compliance of all federal/local timelines, individual records, state performance plan indicators 7, 11 & 12, and discipline procedures.

Position Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Service Delivery

  • Facilitate the implementation of student's individual education plan (IEP)
  • Manage Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs) and Assistant Speech Language Pathologists (Assistant SLPs) to ensure the implementation of assessment best practices that are consistent with laws, rules, and regulations according to federal, state, and local policies/procedures
  • Monitor and serve as a mentor to new SLPs and Assistant SLPs
  • Consult with SLPs and Assistant SLPs regarding special education eligibility, IEPs, services and placement
  • Monitor and assist SLPs and Assistant SLPs in implementation of IEPs and speech therapy recommendations for speech therapy

Compliance

  • Comply with and meet federal and state mandates and local board policy
  • Assist SLPs in completing Full Individual Evaluations and facilitating ARD/IEP meetings
  • Analyze data to comply with State Performance Plan Indicators 7, 11 and 12

Administrative Support

  • Support student services provided by the SLP and Assistant SLPs
  • Evaluate and assign SLP and Assistant SLP caseloads
  • Plan and implement professional development for SLPs and Assistant SLPs
  • Design and maintain recommendations for changes in the assessment batteries
  • Maintain accurate inventory of instructional and evaluation materials including the procurement of necessary therapy materials, evaluation instruments, protocols, etc.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Screen and interview SLPs and Assistant SLPs
  • Assign and manage caseloads of SLPs and Assistant SLPs
  • Performance appraisals for SLPs and Assistant SLPs
  • Addressing complaints and resolving problems

  • Valid Texas license as a Speech Pathologist granted by Texas Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology
  • ASHA Certification
  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a Speech Language Pathologist in public schools
  • Proficient in using Windows Operating System as well as Microsoft Office applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Ablity to effectively communicate information and ideas both verbally and in writing
