About the Facility
Join the pathology team at a major academic medical center in Central Oklahoma supporting a large hospital laboratory and comprehensive pathology services. This assignment offers exposure to surgical pathology, frozen sections, specimen processing, and autopsy services within a collaborative academic environment.
The role is performed under direct supervision and is well suited for a laboratory professional with experience in surgical pathology, specimen processing, or other anatomic pathology functions.

Clinical Responsibilities
The position provides a broad range of anatomic pathology responsibilities, including:
- Gross descriptions of simple and limited specimens
- Frozen section preparation and slide processing
- Autopsy assistance and preparation
- Specimen receiving, identification, and processing
- Tissue cassette labeling and block control
- Specimen photography for documentation and conferences
- Routine histology tasks as needed
- Laboratory equipment calibration and maintenance
Qualifications
- 13 years of laboratory technical experience
- Strong understanding of laboratory processes and specimen handling
- Knowledge of human anatomy and medical terminology
- Ability to follow established technical procedures and instructions
- Surgical pathology or grossing experience preferred
- Frozen section experience preferred
- Autopsy experience preferred
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to troubleshoot and perform technical problem solving
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multitask and remain calm in stressful situations
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment
- Dependable attendance and ability to work scheduled shifts
Key Responsibilities
- Perform gross descriptions of simple and limited pathology specimens as authorized
- Assist with preparation of frozen tissue sections, including labeling, cutting, and staining
- Prepare patients for evisceration during autopsy procedures
- Participate in autopsy call as required
- Receive specimens using appropriate patient identifiers and labeling requirements
- Register and process outpatient specimens within the electronic medical record
- Label tissue cassettes using block control sheets
- Perform routine calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment
- Photograph specimens for documentation and conference preparation
- Assist with specimen procurement, identification, and proper handling
- Perform routine histology duties as assigned
- Follow all hospital and laboratory safety policies and PPE requirements
- Complete annual competency assessments and maintain professional development
- Maintain accurate and organized records
- Collaborate with pathologists, laboratory staff, and other caregivers
- Perform other duties as assigned
