SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Pathologists Assistant (PA), under the direct or indirect supervision of a Pathologist, performs the gross examination and sectioning of surgical pathology specimens. The PA will ensure timely completion of grossing surgical specimens, following specific protocols to aid in patient diagnosis. Coordinates functions between the Grossing area and other laboratory sections, surgical services and providers. Maintains various records, log and files as required by department standards, regulatory and accrediting organizations. Cross training or assisting in other sections of the pathology laboratory may occur as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S): Either Bachelors Degree from a NACCLS-accredited Pathologists Assistant educational program required or Bachelors degree in a job-related field plus two (2) years of experience of on the job training as a Pathologists Assistant.
Applicants trained outside of the United States must provide documentation of equivalency evaluation of their education and training to ensure it is equivalent to CLIA requirements. The equivalency evaluations will be performed by a nationally recognized organization. Ex. National Association Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES), the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S): ASCP certification preferred. Three (3) years of experience as a Pathologists Assistant in an academic hospital setting preferred.
