Pathologists’ Assistant (PA)

Estimated Pay: $3,200+ per week

Nicklas Laboratory Staffing is seeking an experienced, ASCP-certified Pathologists’ Assistant (PA) for an opportunity in Long Island, New York. This position offers estimated weekly compensation of $3,200+, depending on experience and assignment details.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform gross examination, dissection, description, and sampling of surgical pathology specimens

• Accurately document gross findings and prepare specimens for histologic processing

• Select appropriate tissue sections for microscopic examination

• Ensure proper specimen identification, handling, and documentation throughout the pathology workflow

• Assist with frozen sections and other pathology procedures as needed

• Identify and escalate unusual findings, specimen discrepancies, or other concerns to the Pathologist

• Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with laboratory policies and regulatory standards

• Collaborate with Pathologists, Histology staff, laboratory leadership, and other members of the clinical team

• Follow all applicable safety, quality, infection control, and compliance requirements

Qualifications

• ASCP certification as a Pathologists’ Assistant (PA) required

• Graduate of a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program preferred

• Previous surgical pathology and grossing experience preferred

• Strong knowledge of anatomy, pathology terminology, specimen handling, and gross examination techniques

• Ability to work independently and exercise sound professional judgment

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Excellent attention to detail, organization, and documentation skills

• Ability to manage multiple specimens and priorities in a fast-paced laboratory environment

Preferred Experience

Experience with a broad range of surgical pathology specimens is highly valued. Additional experience with complex specimens, oncology cases, autopsy pathology, frozen sections, or specialized pathology workflows is a plus.
