Summary

Under the direction of the Manager, performs laboratory tasks as an aide to the Histotechs using established and approved protocols. Tasks include accessioning specimens, filing blocks, maintaining equipment, and all other duties as assigned.

Job Duties

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.(Do not delete, move or over-write this statement)
  • Accessions Anatomic pathology specimens which includes, verifying requisitions and specimen containers for completeness of patient and client information. Manually enter specimens into Copath accurately and timely. Produces and correctly affixes labels to cassettes, specimen containers, and requisitions. Follows proper procedures with specimen rejection, if the submitted information is incorrect.
  • Operates and maintains laboratory equipment and tracks all routine maintenance performed.
  • Operates, cleans, and sterilizes laboratory equipment, glassware, and instruments. Maintains a clean workstation.
  • Stain frozen section slides.
  • Stains, cover slips and distributes slides to appropriate departments for further processing.
  • Files and retrieves blocks in accordance with State and Federal guidelines
  • Order department supplies.
  • Assists with co-workers in the department as needed. Performs all duties with minimal supervision or assistance. Performs other related duties as assigned and necessary. Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED graduate or equivalent
  • 1 year of related on-the-job training.
  • Professional conduct and interpersonal communication skills with patients, healthcare professionals, laboratory personnel and the public.
  • Manual dexterity in the use of equipment.
  • Proficient in the command and use of the English language.
  • Thorough knowledge of word processing and computer equipment.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology as it relates to the job.

Additional Qualifications

Physical Demands

Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient''s weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.

Salary Range

$21.61 to $30.79 Hourly

The actual hiring rate will be determined based on candidate experience, skills and qualifications. This position is not eligible for an annual incentive.
