We are hiring on behalf of our client for an experienced Pathology Lab Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of a busy pathology laboratory. This leadership role is responsible for workflow coordination, staff supervision, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance while maintaining technical proficiency in histology.

The ideal candidate combines strong operational and people management skills with hands-on experience in anatomic and surgical pathology environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily pathology laboratory operations, including workflow, staffing, and resource allocation
  • Monitor specimen turnaround times, testing volumes, and quality metrics; implement corrective actions as needed
  • Maintain laboratory instrumentation, equipment records, and supply inventory
  • Serve as the operational liaison between laboratory staff, pathologists, and clinical leadership
  • Perform histology and other technical laboratory functions as needed to support staffing gaps, training, or high-volume periods
  • Maintain proficiency and competency in applicable laboratory disciplines
  • Assess staff competency through direct observation and evaluation
  • Develop, review, and maintain laboratory policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Ensure procedures comply with CAP, CLIA, OSHA, and applicable state regulations
  • Manage document control, version updates, and periodic policy reviews
  • Implement corrective action plans resulting from audits, inspections, or quality events
  • Recruit, onboard, train, and evaluate laboratory personnel
  • Manage schedules, attendance, and departmental coverage
  • Conduct performance reviews and support professional development
  • Foster a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement
  • Maintain readiness for CAP, CLIA, and state inspections
  • Oversee quality control, proficiency testing, and quality assurance programs
  • Ensure accurate and compliant documentation practices
  • Assist with budget monitoring and expense management
  • Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Support vendor relationships and supply procurement

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a related field
    (Relevant experience may be substituted in accordance with Florida Clinical Laboratory Personnel statutes.)
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical laboratory experience
  • At least 1–2 years of supervisory or management experience
  • HT or HTL (ASCP) certification, or equivalent
  • Florida Clinical Laboratory Supervisor License in Histology
  • Strong hands-on histology technical skills
  • Working knowledge of CAP, CLIA, OSHA, and related regulatory requirements
  • Experience writing and maintaining laboratory policies and SOPs
  • Proficiency with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS)
  • Experience in anatomic and surgical pathology
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Preferred

  • Experience in multi-site or multi-specialty healthcare environments
