Pathology, Seeking Pathology Medical Director in the Greater Pittsburgh Area

Penn Highlands Healthcare is seeking one BC/BE Pathologist to serve as Medical Director and join Penn Highlands Mon Valley in Monongahela, Pennsylvania.

POSITION DETAILS:

• 5000 surgical pathology specimens
• 1000 non-GYN cytology & 2800 GYN Pap smears
• Two full time cytotechnologists pre-screening all the cytology specimens and independently sign out the bulk of the Pap smears
• Three full time histotechnologists who gross most biopsy cases and some other small specimens (tonsils, fallopian tubes, vasectomies). The rest of the grossing is done by pathologists
• Read for a small critical access hospital
• Work with one other full time pathologist, splitting the clinical and call duties equally
• Evaluation of peripheral blood smears as needed
• Serum and urine protein electrophoresis and immunofixation (SPEP/SPIF) interpretation (run twice a week)
• Evaluation of transfusion reactions as needed
• Interpretation of FISH panels on bone marrows, peripheral blood and solid tumors (the technical component is performed at a reference)
