Job Description

 

Job Summary:

 

The Pathway Advisor supports students’ transition to Saint Paul College by providing quality, holistic, and comprehensive academic advising and transfer planning services. Planning services includes targeted program advising regarding major and career exploration, long-term academic planning, registration, transfer advising, basic financial aid advising, and academic support. The Pathway Advisor will coordinate and facilitate college-wide use of retention initiatives including Early Alert, Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), and proactive case management for new, current, and returning students. To assist students with meeting developmental, educational, and career needs, the Pathway Advisor will make timely referrals to additional support services, including Financial Aid, Counseling & Wellness, Career Services, Access & Disability Resources, Basic Needs, and Academic Support. In addition, the Pathway Advisor will have an active role in activities associated with enrollment, orientation, registration, and completion at the College. Job Duties:

  • Provide comprehensive academic and transfer advising to new, current, and returning students to promote increased student retention, persistence, and completion rates.

  • Use proactive case-management strategies to track student progress to completion and provide timely, appropriate and data-driven interventions.

  • Participate in college-wide activities related to advisement, orientation, registration, and university transfer or graduation by embedding effective advising practices college-wide to ensure staff and student access to consistent, accurate information supporting college completion.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.

 

Salary Range:

 

The salary range for this position is $25.67 to $37.26 hourly.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to support student success through advising, coaching, or related practices, including recognizing and addressing barriers to student persistence and completion;

  • Proven effectiveness working with diverse student populations, including first-generation, historically underserved, non-traditional, and/or underrepresented students, with a commitment to equity and inclusive practices;

  • Experience building and sustaining collaborative partnerships across teams and campus stakeholders (e.g., student affairs staff, deans, faculty);

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt in a fast-paced environment;

  • Skills in computer-based technology in educational environments, including student information systems, and retention-focused CRM tools

  • Ability to interpret, apply, and clearly communicate complex policies, procedures, and information.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field; 

  • 2+ years of professional experience supporting college students through advising, academic coaching, or related areas; 

  • Knowledge of institutional policies, processes, and regulations (e.g., FERPA, Minnesota State system), and the ability to leverage cross-functional understanding of campus services (e.g., Financial Aid, Basic Needs, Tutoring) to provide coordinated, retention-focused advising; 

  • Experience applying student development theories and advising models in higher education practice; 

  • Strong data management skills, including the ability to track, analyze, and accurately report student data; 

  • Proficiency in a language other than English and/or demonstrated ability to work effectively across languages and cultures.
