Job Summary:
Primarily responsible for providing effective customer service for all internal and external customers by utilizing excellent, in-depth knowledge of hospital admissions and outpatient services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Interview patients to obtain insurance benefits, proof of coverage and pre-certification/authorization for inpatients, surgical patients and required outpatients.
- Registers outpatients and prepares proper documentation for outpatient procedures where applicable.
- Processes inpatient admissions and prepares proper documentation for services where applicable.
- Accepts patient payments and records appropriately.
- Greet and assist patients and visitors in a manner consistent with Hospital customer service guidelines.
- Advise patients regarding insurance coverage and estimate patient's responsibility.
- Inform patients of available sources of assistance from outside public and private agencies or refer patient to financial counselor.
- Obtain verification of insurance coverage and benefits payable from insurance companies or other third party payers.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/ABILITIES:
- Basic computer knowledge
- Basic medical terminology
- Good typing skills

ENVIROMENTAL CONDITIONS: Work environment consists of daily patient contact, which may include exposure to blood, or other body fluids.
MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education - High school diploma or equivalent.
- Work Experience - Customer service experience preferred, good communication skills required.
