  • Pay Rate: $24.00 $25.00 / Hour (USD)
  • Shift / Schedule: Day shift, 12:00 PM 8:30 PM (5x8 Hours); start times may range from 12:00 PM 6:00 PM; weekend and holiday requirements apply

Job Summary

The Patient Access Representative (PAR) is responsible for providing patients with a welcoming experience while facilitating patient access to care. The Patient Access Representative I (PAR I) performs a variety of Patient Access activities for patients throughout the Medical Center for Inpatient, Outpatient, and/or Emergency Services. Patient Access Representatives are cross trained to support roles and responsibilities throughout Patient Access, Scheduling, Pre-Registration, Financial Clearance, Referrals, Authorizations, Financial Counseling, Physician Billing, and Patient Arrival & Registration. The Patient Access Representative must have thorough knowledge and understanding of insurance policies and procedures to determine insurance eligibility, benefits, and authorization requirements, Third Party Liability (TPL), Medi-Cal / Medicare eligibility verification, Workers Compensation eligibility, provide patient estimates, determine patient liability, and secure cash deposits (co-pays, deductibles, cash packages). This role also involves patient-facing registration, point of service collections, and financial clearance. Provides superior customer service through all personal and professional interactions with all customers within the health system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Register approximately 25 40 patients daily
  • Identify point of service cash collection opportunities and perform financial clearance
  • Facilitate patient access to care by providing a welcoming registration experience
  • Perform Patient Access activities for Inpatient, Outpatient, and/or Emergency Services patients
  • Support cross-trained roles across Patient Access, Scheduling, Pre-Registration, Financial Clearance, Referrals, Authorizations, Financial Counseling, Physician Billing, and Patient Arrival & Registration
  • Determine insurance eligibility, benefits, and authorization requirements
  • Verify Third Party Liability (TPL), Medi-Cal / Medicare eligibility, and Workers Compensation eligibility
  • Provide patient estimates, determine patient liability, and secure cash deposits (co-pays, deductibles, cash packages)
  • Provide superior customer service through all personal and professional interactions with all customers

Required Skills

  • EPIC EHR experience

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required

Required Experience

  • Minimum 1 2 years of hospital registration experience required
  • Recent in-hospital eligibility experience required

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Onsite role; business professional attire required (scrubs not applicable)
  • Weekend and holiday availability required
  • Start times may range from 12:00 PM 6:00 PM
