DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
- The Patient Access Specialist processes patients from new patient/testing referral to appointment to registration according to HVC policies and procedures.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Responsible for all new patient and testing referrals that are received via fax or electronic for the entire practice.
- Schedules diagnostic testing and new patient referrals. Ensures indication sheets are completed correctly prior to scheduling diagnostic tests.
- Answers incoming calls within three rings and routes the calls appropriately.
- Greets patients as they walk into the clinic with a smile.
- Checks patients in for appointments.
- Makes copies of appropriate insurance cards and identification and scans into Allscripts.
- Obtains patient demographics information and maintains this information in Allscripts.
- Obtains updated information including signature on New Year paperwork when patient presents for care.
- Prints care slips for appointments.
- Files documents in charts.
- Schedules appointments and procedures and charts them appropriately.
- Schedules patients by phone and who present in person.
- Makes new charts (Dequincy) and verifies all appropriate forms are organized correctly before office visit.
- Maintains schedules for all doctors as needed. Works with each physician's nurse for scheduling, canceling and rescheduling patients as needed.
- Trains new employees on the check-in.
- Handles other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- High school graduate.
- Advanced computer skills.
- Ability to communicate with patient, family, peers and medical personnel.
- Basic mathematical skills;
- Must be able to apply good judgment when making decisions, and have advanced prioritization skills.

- Requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to deal with stressful situations and conflict resolution.
