Patient Account Representative | 8-Week Assignment
Location: Rancho Mirage, California
Contract Length: 8 Weeks
Weekly Compensation: Up to $600, based on experience
Connected Health Care is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Patient Account Representative for an 8-week contract opportunity in Rancho Mirage, CA. This position is ideal for a healthcare revenue cycle professional with experience in medical billing, insurance claims follow-up, patient accounts, collections, managed care, and healthcare reimbursement.
The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Billing Manager and be responsible for timely insurance claim follow-up, account resolution, payment collection, adjustments, refunds, and maintaining accurate patient account records.
Patient Account Representative Job Description
- Work under the direction of the Billing Manager to support patient account and revenue cycle operations.
- Perform timely follow-up and collection of unpaid insurance claims, including contracted and commercial insurance carriers.
- Follow up on self-pay patient accounts and outstanding balances.
- Monitor assigned accounts and pursue claims through resolution until the insurance carrier correctly reimburses the claim.
- Review claim status, identify outstanding issues, and determine appropriate follow-up actions.
- Process claim adjustments and refunds when appropriate.
- Respond professionally and accurately to incoming mail and telephone calls regarding assigned claims and patient bills.
- Research account discrepancies and resolve billing and reimbursement issues.
- Interpret contracts, billing regulations, payer requirements, and complex claim information.
- Update account notes and maintain the integrity and accuracy of patient account files.
- Document collection activity and claim follow-up according to department procedures.
- Communicate with insurance companies, patients, healthcare staff, and other parties regarding account and billing issues.
- Use computer-based claims management and database systems to research and manage accounts.
- Prioritize multiple projects and tasks while meeting deadlines and productivity expectations.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient and financial information.
- Provide excellent customer service while handling sensitive billing and payment-related conversations.
- Identify opportunities to resolve account issues efficiently and contribute to overall revenue cycle performance.
Patient Account Representative Skills and Qualifications
- Knowledge of computer-based claims management systems.
- Strong Windows and general computer knowledge.
- Strong keyboarding skills and experience working with database systems.
- Experience using internet-based applications and online payer resources.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment, including copiers, fax machines, calculators, and related equipment.
- Understanding of medical terminology.
- Strong customer service and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent prioritization and time-management skills.
- Ability to interpret contracts, billing regulations, payer requirements, and complex claim requirements.
- Knowledge of healthcare billing and reimbursement processes.
- Working knowledge of managed care.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, insurance representatives, and healthcare professionals.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a healthcare revenue cycle team.
- Leadership skills and the ability to help motivate and support coworkers are a plus.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Some college education preferred.
- Prior experience in a clinic or hospital setting preferred.
- Alternatively, candidates may qualify with approximately 5 years of experience in a clinic, healthcare payer, or collection agency setting.
- Previous experience with medical billing, patient accounts, insurance claims, collections, or healthcare revenue cycle operations strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of managed care required.
- Knowledge of healthcare billing regulations required.
- Medical terminology knowledge required.
- Experience with commercial insurance claims and self-pay accounts preferred.
Certification Requirements
- No specific professional certification is required for this position.
- Medical billing, coding, healthcare revenue cycle, or related certification is a plus.
- Experience and demonstrated knowledge of healthcare claims and reimbursement may be considered in lieu of formal certification.
