Job Description

UW Medicine's Patient Financial Services Department has an outstanding opportunity for a Patient Account Representative 3.

WORK SCHEDULE

  • 100% FTE

  • Day Shift

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Handle a high volume of calls with patients, families, insurance companies, attorneys, and corporate clients in a structured environment under set schedules and tight timeframes

  • Obtain and relay detailed patient information to appropriate departments to ensure quality service

  • Research, resolve, and respond to patient inquiries promptly

  • Assist patients in understanding financial obligations and provide solutions to meet responsibilities

  • Conduct initial telephone screening for financial assistance and help complete applications

  • Coordinate with self-pay and collection partners to resolve patient issues and communicate outcomes

  • Set up and manage patient payment plans

  • Prepare accounts receivable adjustments and maintain accurate records

  • Update patient demographic, financial, and payer information in applicable systems

  • Communicate with medical center staff, patients, and third-party payers to verify billing information and resolve concerns

  • Review patient account status and determine appropriate actions for resolution

  • Skip trace return mail accounts and analyze bankrupt or deceased patient accounts

  • Maintain spreadsheets and draft correspondence using Microsoft Excel and Word

  • Assist in training and orienting new staff while meeting departmental quality and performance standards

REQUIREMENTS

  • High School graduation or equivalent AND three years of experience in patient accounting, customer service, or a related office environment.

  • Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
