Prairie Lakes Healthcare System-Sanford Health Watertown is a non-profit healthcare system serving 10 counties in northeastern South Dakota and west-central Minnesota. Our team at Prairie Lakes makes a difference in the lives of patients and their loved ones POSITION SUMMARY Wage: $18.75- $26.64 This full-time position(1.0 status or 40hrs per week) position performs financial counseling and account resolution to all patients for all services lines. Communicates account status to applicable parties. Ensures collection procedures are followed to minimize bad debt and maximize cash collections. RESPONSIBILITIES Completes all functions associated with final collection of patient accounts. Generates and processes numerous reports to ensure account resolution and other applicable reasons specific to each report. Processes payments, employee discounts, and sets up payroll deductions. Prepares bad debt write offs and forwards to the collection agency and performs follow-up with the agency. Works with the state bankruptcy court and attorneys to manage bankruptcies, probates, and litigation's. Reviews and assists in final determination of charity care and Medicare bad debt adjustments when applicable. Assists and maintains projects delegated by supervisor including but not limited to additional development requests, contract billing resolution, and track collection data. Works with area medical providers and insurance carriers in obtaining accurate patient data to assist in the collection process. Completes various outside agency forms regarding patient accounts (consumer credit agencies, cost ratios, and victim's assistance applications). Assists with Private Pay up front collections. Other duties may be assigned. JOB SPECIFICATIONS Education and/or Experience High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience. One year prior medical or general office experience required. Two years experience preferred. Computer Skills Microsoft Office applications, Internet, CPSI, and HBOC. Required Skills and Abilities Strong interpersonal skills, ability to plan, organize, and complete assignments as directed, ability to deal tactfully with patients, visitors and general public, good communication skills, and customer service oriented.
