Overview:

Riverside Healthcare in Kankakee, Illinois, is seeking a Patient Care Services Clinical Supervisor (RN) to provide leadership and operational oversight for Patient Care Services support staff, including Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) and sitters.

This role is responsible for supervising and coordinating the utilization of patient care support resources across the organization while ensuring staff are effectively assigned, supported, and performing within their scope of practice. The Supervisor promotes high standards of patient care support, staff accountability, and efficient resource utilization.

The Supervisor collaborates closely with the Patient Care Services Nurse Manager and Staffing Coordinator to ensure appropriate resource allocation and support safe patient care delivery across patient care departments.

Essential Duties

  • Provide direct supervision, guidance, and operational oversight for float CNAs and sitters within Patient Care Services. 
  • Coordinate and oversee daily assignments and deployment of support staff across patient care units to meet operational and patient care needs. 
  • Monitor staff performance and provide coaching, feedback, and performance support to ensure adherence to hospital policies and standards of care. 
  • Collaborate with the Staffing Coordinator and nursing leadership to address real-time staffing needs and resource distribution. 
  • Serve as a clinical and operational resource for CNA and sitter staff across the organization. 
  • Support orientation, onboarding, and competency validation for newly hired CNAs and sitters. 
  • Promote adherence to patient safety standards, infection prevention practices, and quality care initiatives. 
  • Address operational concerns related to patient care support staff and escalate issues to leadership as appropriate. 
  • Participate in identifying opportunities to improve support staff utilization, workflow efficiency, and staffing processes. 
  • Foster a positive work environment through staff engagement, mentoring, and professional development support. 
  • Assist the Nurse Manager with monitoring staffing effectiveness and operational needs related to support staff resources. 

Non-Essential Duties

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to patient care services and staffing operations. 
  • Assist with education initiatives for patient care support staff. 
  • Contribute to departmental meetings, leadership discussions, and operational planning activities. 
  • Support initiatives that promote staff engagement, retention, and professional development. 
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training to stay current with best practices and advancements in nursing practice. 
  • Complete all required organizational and regulatory education. 
  • Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives, evidence-based practice, and research activities when applicable. 
Responsibilities:

Required Licensure/Education 

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing. 
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Illinois. 
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • ACLS within 6 months of hire
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) 
  • 3 years of clinical nursing experience in an acute care setting

Preferred Experience

  • Previous charge nurse, leadership, or supervisory experience in a hospital setting. 
  • Experience working with float or resource staff across multiple inpatient units. 
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule

Certification Requirements

  • Maintain annual education requirements for hospital-based certifications (e.g., DNV, CARF, or other regulatory requirements).
  • Complete and maintain a nationally ANCC-recognized nursing leadership or nursing specialty certification within 12 months of hire.
