Under the direction of a licensed professional, the Patient Care Technician delivers hands-on patient care and comfort, assists with clinical procedures and technical tasks, and accurately observes, reports, and documents patient status. The role supports safe, efficient unit operations by focusing on personal care, mobility, nutrition, hydration, elimination, and prevention of complications, while preparing patients and environments for procedures. Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team, the PCT provides compassionate, patient- and family-centered support across diverse care settings to promote quality outcomes and a positive experience.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide compassionate, hands-on patient care while supporting each patient's individualized plan of care.
  • Assist with activities of daily living, including hygiene, nutrition, mobility, and elimination needs.
  • Perform routine clinical tasks such as obtaining vital signs, blood glucose testing, specimen collection, oxygen setup, and simple dressing changes.
  • Accurately document patient care and observations to maintain complete and timely medical records.
  • Promote a safe, clean, and organized patient care environment while following infection prevention and safety protocols.
  • Observe patients, identify changes in condition, and promptly communicate concerns to the nursing team.
  • Deliver excellent customer service by warmly assisting patients, families, visitors, and healthcare team members.
  • Collaborate with nurses and interdisciplinary team members to provide high-quality, patient-centered care.
  • Support efficient unit operations by taking initiative, assisting with department needs, and maintaining a positive team environment.
Qualifications:

 

Experience: Must be at least 16 years old if meeting #5 below under license/certification.

 

License(s)/Certification(s): Successful completion and documentation of one of the following:

  1. Graduation from an accredited nursing program and waiting for NCLEX re-examination.
  2. Certified Nursing Assistant listed as either Active or Inactive on any state health care worker registry.
  3. EMT-B licensure.
  4. Medical Assistant.
  5. Must be enrolled in Trinity’s PCT on the job training program and successfully complete.
  6. Successful completion of first semester of nursing school that includes Nursing Fundamentals.
  7. Current CPR certification.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English. Multicultural sensitivity. Microsoft Office – basic computer skills. Customer/patient focused. Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.

 

Other: Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position. Work may occasionally require travel to other UPH facilities.
