Summary of Job Purpose To perform and deliver patient care activities and related non-professional services for assigned hospital patients as directed by registered professional nurses or licensed practical nurses. Population served based on scope of services in the department.

Job Qualifications

• Education: High School graduate or equivalency
• License: BLS within 30 days of hire
• Experience: Nursing home or acute care experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Provides daily physical and emotional care to patients, i.e., bathing, toileting, feeding, ambulating, etc.
• Answers call lights in timely fashion
• Assists licensed personnel as directed
• Accuracy in obtaining vs. ht wt io and other procedures as per competency
• Maintains a safe and clean environment utilizing appropriate infection control techniques
• Recognizes when to seek help from licensed personnel, i.e., changes in patient condition
• Transports patients as needed
• Provides input to the interdisciplinary healthcare team
• Acts as a preceptor to all new Nurse Assistants and orientee Nurse Assistants
• Demonstrates use of appropriate body mechanics
• Displays analytical and basic problem-solving skills
• Communicates problems to manager as appropriate
• Follows all time and attendance policies
• Attends educational programs provided by the Hospital or those which are outside the Hospital that are related to job responsibilities

• Manual significant manual skills, motor coordination, and finger dexterity
• Occupational Significant occupational risk
• Physical Effort: Very Heavy effort. May exert up to 50 lbs. force
• Physical Environment: Significant exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
