Description

Position Summary: 

The Patient Care Technician assists nurses and physicians in the delivery of patient care through the coordination of patient care with other departments.  A multi-skilled role that serves as an integral member of the primary patient care team. Performs clinical procedures (core and unit/practice environment-specific) to meet the physical and emotional care needs of the patient.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists with patient care based on the individual needs within the scope of practice, under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. Duties include, but are not limited to delegated aspects of age-appropriate patient care, taking vital signs, phlebotomy, respiratory therapy and ECG under the direction of the RN. Performs technical and medical procedures not governed by licensure.
  • Maintains an organized working system in the emergency department through accurate documentation, orderly filing, and by ensuring appropriate departments receive the paperwork documentation required for patient care delivery.
  • Effectively moves patients, supplies and equipment in a safe and timely manner as directed.
  • Consistently provides quality patient care and is proactive in providing excellent service to the patients.
  • Communicates effectively with other health care workers, physicians, patients and their families.

Qualifications:

  • High School/GED
  • CNA Certification or EMT/Paramedic license along with CPR is required
  • Phlebotomy experience
