PATIENT TRANSPORT - PATIENT COMPANIONSITTER ASSOCIATE
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for constant basic behavior observation and assistance for non-clinical patient care safety and services under the direction of nursing personnel.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Utilizes specialized knowledge, training, and skill to perform job requirements.
- Provides constant basic behavior observation and non-clinical patient care services.
- Non-clinical patient care services can include duties such as:
• Feeding
• Grooming
• Transporting patients
- Positioning and transferring can be provided with nursing assistance.
- Bathing and toileting services are not provided.
MONITORING PATIENT CONDITION AND SITUATIONS
- Monitors patient condition and situations that may require nursing attention or intervention.
- Provides routine patient status updates and written reports to nursing personnel and ABM Healthcare Support Services management.
ENSURING PATIENT SAFETY
- Ensures patient safety, including those in restraints, while meeting standards outlined by:
• The Joint Commission (TJC)
• Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)
• ABM Healthcare Support Services
• The Hospital
- Maintains patient confidentiality as outlined by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
PATIENT INTERACTION AND BEHAVIOR
- Remains with patients at all times unless relieved by authorized hospital personnel.
- Utilize verbal persuasion techniques to have patients remain calm and in bed or the hospital room.
- Contact nursing personnel immediately if the patients condition changes or unruly behavior cannot be resolved after utilizing de-escalating behavioral techniques.
- Fully vigilant to the patients behavior and condition and not permitted to be distracted from the patient at any time.
- This includes reading personal information, watching television, talking on cell phones, etc.
- Follows all established ABM Healthcare Support Services and Hospital policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, and environmental and infection control standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: High school graduate or equivalent required.
- Required length of experience: Previous hospital experience preferred.
- Required licensure, certification, and/or registry: None.
