Patient Eligibility and Authorization Liaison

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced team member to join our physical therapy practice as a Patient Eligibility and Authorization Liaison. This role is responsible for insurance eligibility checks, benefits verification, and obtaining authorizations to ensure a smooth start of care for our patients.

Key Responsibilities

· Verify patients’ insurance eligibility and benefits for physical therapy (and related rehab) services.

· Obtain pre-authorizations, referrals, and continued authorizations from insurance companies as required.

· Communicate with patients regarding coverage details, deductibles, copays/coinsurance, and estimated out-of-pocket costs.

· Clearly document all verification and authorization details in the EMR/practice management system.

· Track authorization expirations and visit limits; notify clinical and front-desk staff as needed.

· Collaborate with front-desk, billing, and clinical teams to support clean claims and reduce denials.

· Respond to insurance and patient inquiries in a timely and professional manner.

Qualifications

· Prior experience with medical insurance verification, authorizations, benefits, and eligibility (preferred in PT/OT/ST or outpatient rehab).

· Strong understanding of commercial plans, Medicare/Medicaid, and HMO/PPO structures.

· Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

· Clear, professional communication skills with patients, payers, and staff.

· Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and handle a fast-paced environment.

· Experience with EMR/practice management and billing systems is a plus.
