MAHEC is seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Patient Financial Advocate to serve by helping patients overcome financial barriers to care and access the resources available to them. Working directly with patients, you'll identify payment solutions, connect individuals with financial assistance programs, and provide guidance through complex healthcare and billing processes. This role combines patient advocacy, problem-solving, and financial counseling to support positive patient outcomes and ensure every patient is treated with dignity, understanding, and respect.

JOB SUMMARY:

Working inside the clinical facility,managepatient account problems by working directly with the patient toidentifypayment solutions,utilizingspecialqualifications,and sliding fees, andinitiatingthe discharge process.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Provide guidance and education to all patients who have or are expected to have patient responsibility balances for accessing discount programs, applying for Medicaid programs, setting up payment plans, qualifying for MAHEC Charity Care and other MAHEC fully funded programs

  • Maintain established policies and procedures for patient billing and stay abreast of current state and federal guidelines and lawspertaining tocollections

  • Responsible for coordinating the discharge process according to MAHEC’s discharge policy

  • Responsible for qualifying applicants for MAHEC Charity Care, governmentalassistanceprograms, MAHEC fully funded programs

  • Utilize estimating tools todeterminepatient responsibility amounts and communicate with the patient

  • Perform duties related to Collections to include generate and mail collection letters, receive phone calls from patients related to collection balances and other collection activities as assigned

Finally, the ability to apply the depth of knowledgemaintainedand gained through this process in real life scenarios asappropriate.

SPECIFIED SKILLS

  • COMPUTER 

  • Advanced computer skillsto include MS Excel and MS Word.

  • Experience with Allscripts PM preferred.

  • FOREIGN LANGUAGE

  • Spanish-speaking skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree, threeyearsrelevant experience, or comparable combined education and/or experience. 

  • Experience must include telephone collection calls, work with aged accounts receivable, and extensive computer experience. 

  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Medical office experience preferred.

SCHEDULE:

  • Regular attendance on-site is an essential function of this position. Typical business hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (or flexed to best meet the needs of the clients and/or the Division);40 hoursper workweek; weekend, holiday, or evening coverage is occasionally. Work hours will need to be flexiblein order torespond to special work assignments, or evening activities, as requested by the team leader.

COMPENSATION:

$23.65/hour + MAHEC Total Rewards Package
