Under the direction of the Director of Quality, the Patient Safety Specialist will participate in the implementation, review and support of the facility patient safety program. The senior specialist will support Patient Safety Specialists in their work with patient care teams in achieving high quality and best possible outcomes and will serve as a subject matter expert in patient safety. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
In collaboration with leadership, coworkers, and medical staff the patient safety specialist will develop, implement, monitor and champion processes related to key patient safety issues. The Senior Patent Safety Specialist will model behaviors that embrace just culture, reporting, flexibility, and learning across the organization. The senior specialist will work directly with organizational leaders and multi-disciplinary teams to identify resources needed to support patient safety improvement projects.
The Senior Patient Safety Specialist will perform duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
Position Details:
Minimum Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree
Licensure: None required
Experience: 3+ years in clinical healthcare related experience
Certification/Registration: Certification in patient safety (e.g. Certified Professional in Patient Safety) or quality (e.g. Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality) required within 3 years.

Preferred Qualifications:
Education: Master's degree in clinical healthcare related field.
Licensure:
Experience: 7+ years in clinical healthcare related experience. 3+ years in patient safety, clinical quality improvement, or risk management experience.
Certification/Registration: Certification in patient safety (e.g. Certified Professional in Patient Safety) or quality (e.g. Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality)

Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 185 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who wanted to help the poor women and children of Dublin. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill her dreams. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to poor women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, the first religious order not bound to the rules of the cloister, whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes. By the time Catherine died in 1841, there were convents in Ireland and England, and in 1843, the Sisters of Mercy came to the United States. In 1871, they traveled to St. Louis and from there throughout the Midwest, beginning what would, today be known as Mercy.
