Position Overview

The Patient Service Representative (PSR) is the first point of contact for our patients and visitors and plays a vital role in creating a positive, seamless patient experience. This position supports front desk operations, patient workflows, and clinic coordination while providing exceptional customer service in a fast‑paced healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous, and professional manner and verify patient identity
  • Perform all check‑in, check‑out, and appointment scheduling activities
  • Answer phones and complete general clerical duties, including Epic chart creation, scanning, RightFax management, copying, and mail processing
  • Balance and close assigned cash drawer daily, maintaining accurate cash counts
  • Maintain accuracy of patient charts and electronic health records (EHR)
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of clinic equipment, including computers, scanners, credit card machines, copiers/fax machines, and related office tools
  • Review departmental communications in a timely manner, participate in meetings, and suggest workflow improvements
  • Support and implement changes related to EPIC or clinic workflows
  • Maintain a clean, safe reception and waiting area in accordance with Infection Control Guidelines
  • Adhere to safety regulations, confidentiality policies, and incident reporting procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills with a patient‑focused, empathetic approach
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills, including data entry and word processing
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow privacy policies and procedures
  • Ability to adapt in a fast‑paced environment and remain professional under pressure
  • Willingness to attend and complete Clinic Core Front Desk Training post‑hire

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to push, pull, and/or lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally
  • Ability to stand and walk throughout the shift
  • Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat as required to perform job duties

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of applicable medical office or healthcare experience

Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 185 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who wanted to help the poor women and children of Dublin. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill her dreams. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to poor women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help.
