Patient Support Specialist

Cataract & Laser Institute is seeking a flexible, patient-focused Patient Support Specialist to support our optician, front desk, and technician departments.

This position floats between departments within the clinic based on daily needs. You’ll be trained on the responsibilities of each area and work alongside the team to help patients move smoothly through their visits. This is not a front desk-only position.

What You’ll Do

Optician support

• Help patients select frames and understand available lens options.
• Assist with eyewear orders, adjustments, and other optical tasks based on training.

Front desk support

• Welcome patients and assist with check-in and check-out.
• Schedule appointments, answer calls, and update patient and insurance information.
• Communicate with patients, referring offices, and clinic team members.

Technician support

• Prepare patients for exams and assist with patient flow.
• Gather and document patient information and perform testing within your training and assigned responsibilities.
• Support technicians and providers with exam-related tasks.

Across all departments

• Shift between assignments as clinic needs change.
• Document information accurately, protect patient confidentiality, and follow clinic procedures.
• Recognize when a question or concern needs to be referred to a licensed clinician or supervisor.

What We’re Looking For

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience in ophthalmology, optometry, optical sales, a medical office, or patient service preferred.
• Willingness to learn and work in optical, administrative, and clinical support settings.
• Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a compassionate approach to patient care.
• Ability to stay organized and adapt in a busy clinic environment.
• Comfort using computers and learning electronic medical record systems.
