General Purpose of Position


The EMS Driver is responsible for safely operating ambulances and other EMS vehicles to transport patients, personnel, and medical equipment. The role requires excellent driving skills, knowledge of local routes, and the ability to remain calm under pressure during emergency situations.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Safely operate ambulances and emergency vehicles according to state and company regulations
  • Transport patients to hospitals, clinics, or other care facilities efficiently and safely
  • Ensure vehicles are clean, fueled, and properly maintained before and after shifts
  • Assist EMS personnel with loading and unloading patients and medical equipment
  • Follow traffic laws, safety protocols, and EMS policies at all times
  • Respond to emergency calls promptly and coordinate with dispatch and EMS teams
  • Maintain accurate logs of vehicle inspections, mileage, and maintenance needs
  • Assist in stocking and maintaining medical supplies and equipment in the ambulance
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development programs
  • Education, Skills, and Experience Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; CDL may be required depending on state regulations
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience driving emergency vehicles preferred
  • Knowledge of local roads, highways, and alternative routes
  • Ability to remain calm and focused in high-stress or emergency situations
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Physical ability to assist with patient movement and equipment handling


Preferred Qualifications

  • EMT or CPR certification
  • Experience in patient transport or EMS support role
  • Familiarity with GPS and vehicle tracking systems
  • Physical Requirements and Work Environment
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 85 lbs. from floor level to a height of 36 inches and transport the load 5 feet.
  • Ability to push and pull up to 100 lbs on a sled over a distance of 300 feet.
  • Ability to ascend and descend a 20-inch step safely and repeatedly.
  • Ability to ascend and descend 24 stairs safely and repeatedly.
