Job Summary
The Hospital Patient Transporter is responsible for safely and efficiently transporting patients, medical equipment, and other essential items throughout the hospital. This role plays a critical part in ensuring timely patient care and maintaining smooth hospital operations.
Key Responsibilities
• Safely transport patients via wheelchair stretcher or bed to various departments (e.g. radiology, surgery, discharge). • Assist patients in and out of transport vehicles, beds, and wheelchairs as needed. • Ensure patient comfort and safety during transport, including proper use of restraints and equipment. • Deliver medical records, specimens, medications, and equipment between departments. • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of transport equipment. • Respond promptly to transport requests via hospital communication systems. • Communicate effectively with nursing staff, patients, and other hospital personnel. • Follow infection control and safety procedures at all times. • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required. Previous experience in a healthcare or customer service setting preferred. Basic knowledge of medical terminology is a plus. Ability to lift and move patients and equipment up to 50 lbs. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. CPR certification or willingness to obtain upon hire.
Work Environment
Fast-paced hospital setting. Frequent walking, standing, and lifting. Exposure to patients with various medical conditions.
