As a Patrol Aide, your responsibilities will include assisting with traffic control, responding to reports of disabled vehicles, and conducting searches for missing persons. Required Qualifications
Vocational/Educational Requirement: Requires a high school diploma or GED/HSE.
Experience: None required
Special Certifications and Licenses: Requires a valid driver's license and driving record in compliance with City Driving Standards. Special skills or equipment certification will be required.
Special Requirement(s):
Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.
Must meet the same minimum qualifications as a sworn officer, except for age.
Must be a United States Citizen.
As a conditional employment requirement, all Patrol Aides must apply to be a sworn police officer when they reach the age of 20 ½ years old or upon service in the cadet program for 2 years and 6 months.
Patrol Aides who fail to apply to be a sworn officer or whose years of service exceed 2 years and 6 months will be removed from the Cadet Program.
Employees are required to work rotating schedules, including weekends and holidays, and may need to work beyond their regular hours when operationally necessary. Employees may be required to work additional hours to meet short-term departmental needs or respond to City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and locations may fall outside normal job duties.

The PATs are held at the Chesapeake Law Enforcement Training Academy (CLETA), on Saturday mornings at 8:00 AM.
PAT OBSTACLE COURSE: A timed (1:36 minutes or less) 150-yard course to measure stamina and cardiovascular fitness in completing various job-related physical skills. Patrol Aide applicants must make two bonified attempts at the wall, if the applicant cannot get over the wall after the two attempts, they can bypass the wall as directed by the proctor.
