Job Description: Paving Laborer Salary Range: $20 - $23

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Persons working in the entry level construction field are required to help experienced workers by performing routine tasks,
such as loading and unloading materials and preparing and cleaning the worksite for projects. They usually need to learn
from other workers how to do more difficult tasks, such as using special equipment and tools. Entry level workers will
perform many of the following tasks:
• Follow all health and safety regulations, including wearing personal protective equipment
• Follow and complete all tasks requested by the foreman or more experienced coworker
• Remove debris
• Assist equipment operator and other skilled labor when necessary
• Operate shovel, broom, ax, rake, hacksaw, jackhammer, picks, chop saw, vibrating plates, torch, and rotary
hammer
• Chop asphalt edges
• Must be attentive to equipment sights and sounds on the jobsite
• Prepare construction site each day by cleaning obstacles and hazards
• Load or unload construction materials
• Remove, fill, or compact earth
• Direct traffic to ensure safety of pedestrians, motorists, and work crew
• Ready to learn from on-the-job training
• Perform site clean-up
• Ensure construction equipment and tools are cleaned and stored properly
• Complete all assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner
• Train on experienced tasks and learn new tasks from coworkers

Construction Laborer Requirements and Qualifications:
• Must be at least 18 years old
• Must have a valid California driver’s license
• Ability to do physical labor and other strenuous physical tasks
• Ability to work in all weather
• Ability to work overtime, including weekends
• Be punctual and reliable
• Ability to physically stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 50 pounds
• Ability to navigate construction job site terrain
• Ability to work independently or as an active member of a team
• Have good personal skills and communication with all levels of management and coworkersC
