Payment Risk & Controls Specialist
Position Overview
  • We are seeking an experienced Payment Risk & Controls professional with a strong background in payment operations, risk management, and control frameworks.
  • The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience supporting Wire and/or ACH payment processes and possess a deep understanding of payment controls, operational risk, and regulatory compliance.
  • This role is ideal for candidates with experience in payment operations, payment risk management, or audit functions supporting payment operations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee payment risk and control activities across Wire and ACH payment processes.
  • Evaluate and strengthen operational controls to ensure secure and compliant payment processing.
  • Identify payment risks, recommend mitigation strategies, and support remediation efforts.
  • Partner with Operations, Risk, Compliance, and Internal Audit teams to ensure effective control execution.
  • Review payment workflows and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency while maintaining a strong control environment.
  • Support risk assessments, control testing, issue management, and audit readiness.
  • Ensure adherence to internal policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices related to payment processing.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in Payment Risk, Payment Operations, Operational Risk, or Internal Audit supporting payment functions.
  • Strong knowledge of Wire payments and ACH processing (experience with at least one is required; experience with both is preferred).
  • Experience designing, executing, or evaluating payment control processes.
  • Solid understanding of operational risk management and internal controls.
  • Experience working within financial services or banking environments.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with payment investigations, exceptions, or operational risk management.
  • Background in Internal Audit with a focus on payment operations or banking controls.
  • Knowledge of banking regulations and payment industry standards.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including Operations, Risk, Compliance, and Audit.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience managing payment risk or working within payment operations and understands the operational controls required to support Wire and ACH payments. Candidates with a strong audit background focused on payment operations and internal controls are also highly desirable.
