As a Payments Specialist for Abound Credit Union, you will be engaged in a rewarding and challenging environment to support the organization’s payments program.

This position’s responsibilities include all functions related to ACH, share draft clearing, remote deposit capture, wire transfers, A2A transfers, processing files for other departments, and research.

To be successful, this person will need to manage competing priorities on a day-to-day basis, including providing service to other Credit Union departments, reaching out to members for verifications, adhere to sensitive deadlines but still ensure quality, be observant for suspicious activity, and have a strong working knowledge of payment services.

The position’s responsibilities require a person who is detail oriented, can work in a fast-paced environment, and can learn. Staying knowledgeable about payments systems, regulatory changes, and developments in the industry is also an important aspect of the position.

What You’ll Do:

  • Processes daily ACH activities, which include receiving, editing, posting and balancing daily ACH item files from the Federal Reserve System, manually process mobile and ACH dispute files, verifying all transactions through OFAC, posting warehoused ACH items, reentering ACH exceptions, manually posting mortgage and Visa ACH payments, creating ACH return file, processing ACH Origination files for Lending, Accounts Payable, and external member transfers through the Federal Reserve,  posting manual and automated payrolls, and sending and receiving NOCs. Process disputed ACH transactions through Centrix and the Federal Reserve, Verify data input for accuracy.
  • Works share draft and loan draft exceptions, following UCC regulations to determine which exceptions should be posted and which should be returned. Verify share draft data and research through Alloya and send Share Draft return file to Alloya daily.
  • Process incoming and outgoing wire transfers for members in accordance with established procedures, serving as a resource for Retail staff in their process of initiating wire transfers, and ensuring that all outgoing wire activity is properly approved, OFAC checks are processed and represents collected funds.
  • Review member deposits through Remote Deposit Capture for appropriateness, place appropriate holds when needed, keeping a keen eye on fraud and increased risk levels and processing accordingly.
  • Review held Cashback+ purchases by reaching out to members for verification, and researching any suspicious gift cards purchased.
  • Having a working knowledge of the online banking system and payments functions contained within the online banking system for research and troubleshooting purposes.
  • Complete Stop Payment quality control reviews to ensure appropriate processing in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct research and other validation efforts through group email, Workfront tickets and phone calls as they relate to the payment systems for business units, members, or other team members with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Escalate any suspect transactions or out-of-the-ordinary situations to management to ensure that appropriate actions are taken as necessary.

What We Need:

    • Minimum High School Diploma or GED.
    • Ability to handle, prioritize, and reprioritize multiple tasks across many projects or activities and teams with little to no advanced notice.
    • Attention to detail and ability to think critically regarding potentially suspicious or fraudulent activity
    • Ability to interact and work effectively with all levels of the organization including inter-departmental support, department/branch managers, members, and / or vendors (as necessary).
    • Self-Motivated, enthusiastic, and aggressive with a willingness to support others within the Credit Union.
    • Ability to proficiently operate the Microsoft Office suite of applications (Excel, Word, t).
    • Ability to operate computer related equipment of moderate complexity (e.g. multiple open applications, multitasking, and sharing data between applications such as cut/copy/paste).
    • Demonstrated ability to comprehend and follow sophisticated automation system input procedures and process flows.
    • Ability to remain resilient, postured, polite and maintain a professional demeanor in all situations.
    • Possess a high level of proficiency in exercising active listening and comprehensive skills.
    • Superior oral and written communication skills are a must.
    • Maintaining a high level of organization with strong critical thinking skills is necessary.
