Payroll Accountant is responsible for preparing, reviewing and ensuring the accuracy of semi-monthly payrolls; participating in quarterly and yearend tax reporting; and performing professional accounting functions, including balance sheet reconciliations and month end accruals.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Duties)

  • Responsible for processing multiple state payrolls semi-monthly for hourly and salaried domestic and US expatriate employees.
  • Maintain and review payroll through Ultimate Software to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, terminations, benefits, garnishments, child support, taxes and other deductions.
  • Perform calculation of prorated hours, short term disabilities, military pay, severance pay, danger and hazardous pay, relocation, paid time off payouts and other related matters involving payroll calculations.
  • Review submitted timesheets, unapproved PTO pending and PTO cancellations in Ultimate Software Time Management system.
  • Review and prepare GL files for Global Payroll Manager and Senior Director, Financial Reporting & Control for review on a semi-monthly basis.
  • Review all documentation from Human Resources (HR) for completeness and coordinate with HR for corrections.
  • Prepare accounts payable related transactions for payroll such as retirement funding, taxes and garnishments, as well as related journal entries for account reconciliation and accruals.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local wage and hourly guidelines for best practices.
  • Serve as primary contact for resolving issues with employees and managers regarding payroll calculations, taxes and payments.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
  • Reconcile and perform payroll and employee benefits reconciliations to resolve outstanding issues on a monthly basis.
  • Provide support to the Global Payroll Manager to successfully execute W2 and year end reporting.
  • Work closely with HR department to ensure the accuracy of employee benefits and health insurance deductions.
  • Provide support to the Global Payroll Manager and Senior Director Accounting Operations as needed for 401K and Worker’s Compensation audits.
  • Provide support to the Global Payroll Manager and serve as a backup for the Korean Local National payroll.
  • Maintain and validate monthly grant chargeable reporting information for DoD Grant.
  • Develop comprehensive reporting and analytics from payroll data using Business Intelligence to support analysis and external reporting.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required. CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) a plus.
  • 3-5 years of payroll experience is required.
  • Ability to prepare, modify and run Business Intelligence People Analytics report in Ultimate Software or other Payroll systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Federal, State and local law and regulations.
  • Excellent understanding of GAAP, balance sheet reconciliations and monthly accruals.
  • Must have strong proficiency with Ultimate Software and Time Management software or other Payroll systems.
  • Knowledge of Sage Intacct or other ERP systems.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain proper credentials necessary to access USO Center locations and facilities including but not limited to security, credit and/or background screening, SOFA status, valid driver’s license.
