Salary/Hourly Rate:
$40/hr

Position Overview:
The Payroll Accountant ensures accurate and timely payroll processing, compliance with regulations, and maintains payroll records. This role supports employee inquiries, reconciles payroll accounts, and implements best practices for payroll operations.

Responsibilities of the Payroll Accountant:
  • Compile and record employee time and payroll data.
  • Compute wages, deductions, and enter data into payroll systems.
  • Process and issue paychecks and statements of earnings.
  • Prepare and balance period-end reports; reconcile payrolls to bank statements.
  • Review time sheets, wage computation, and reconcile payroll discrepancies.
  • Maintain and update payroll records for exemptions, transfers, and resignations.
  • Issue and record adjustments for errors or retroactive increases.
  • Keep track of leave time (vacation, personal, sick leave).
  • Prepare and file payroll tax returns.
  • Provide information to employees and managers on payroll matters, tax issues, and benefit plans.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including pay transparency and equal opportunity requirements.
Required Experience/Skills for the Payroll Accountant:
  • Minimum 2 years of payroll/accounting experience.
  • Proficiency in payroll processing and reconciliation.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience with compliance and regulatory standards.
Preferred Experience/Skills for the Payroll Accountant:
  • Familiarity with New York wage transparency laws.
  • Experience with payroll tax filings.
  • Exposure to benefits administration.
  • Knowledge of relevant labor laws and regulations.
Education Requirements:
  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred.
