Payroll & Accounting Associate
A. Servidone, Inc. / B. Anthony Construction Corp. - Castleton, NY
Full-time, on-site Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM $55,000 - 65,000 per year
Build a career in one of accounting's most specialized fields. If you're looking for more than routine bookkeeping or payroll processing, this role offers the opportunity to develop expertise in construction accounting while supporting major infrastructure projects throughout New York and New Jersey. Working alongside an experienced Controller and Craft Payroll Manager, you'll gain hands-on experience in union payroll, job costing, certified payroll, prevailing wage compliance, and financial reporting--all while building a long-term career with a company that prefers to promote from within. A. Servidone, Inc. / B. Anthony Construction Corp. is a family-owned heavy highway construction company building some of the largest highway and complex infrastructure work in the state. We are hiring a Payroll & Accounting Associate to join our accounting and payroll team in Castleton, NY.
The Position
This is a development role in construction accounting, not a data-entry job. You will join our accounting and payroll team, working directly with our Craft Payroll Manager and taking on accounting assignments from our Controller. Your core responsibility is weekly payroll for our union and non-union craft workforce - one of the more specialized areas of accounting there is, covering multiple collective bargaining agreements and prevailing wage law. Beyond payroll, the Controller will assign you accounting work - job costing, reconciliations, month-end support, union benefit reporting - deliberately chosen to build you into a well-rounded construction accounting professional.
We are structuring this seat for someone who wants a career, and our preference is to promote from within as the company grows.
What You'll Learn
Union craft payroll across multiple trades and Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) - a skill set that is scarce and in demand
Certified payroll and prevailing wage compliance (state and federal)
Multi-state payroll tax, union fringe administration, and construction ERP systems (Viewpoint Vista)
Construction accounting from a working Controller: job costing, WIP, and how a heavy civil contractor tracks money
What You'll Do
Partner with the Craft Payroll Manager to deliver accurate weekly payroll for a large union and non-union field workforce, ensuring employees are paid correctly and on schedule.
Apply multiple collective bargaining agreements to calculate wages, union fringes, deductions, benefit contributions, and payroll adjustments with a high degree of accuracy.
Help prepare certified payroll submissions and support compliance with prevailing wage requirements for state and federally funded heavy highway projects.
Work with superintendents and field engineers by reviewing timecards, resolving payroll discrepancies, and ensuring labor is coded correctly before payroll is finalized.
Expand your accounting experience through projects assigned by the Controller, including job costing, account reconciliations, month-end close activities, benefit administration, payroll deductions, and audit support.
Maintain organized payroll documentation and provide supporting records for internal reviews, union reporting, and compliance audits associated with publicly funded construction projects.
What We're Looking For
Associate or bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business - or equivalent hands-on payroll/accounting experience
1-3 years of payroll, bookkeeping, or accounting experience
Strong Excel skills and comfort learning new systems
Accuracy and reliability - craft payroll runs every week, on time, no exceptions
A plus, not required: union payroll or prevailing wage exposure, Viewpoint Vista (or similar construction ERP), construction industry background, FPC/CPP certification.
