ROLE
WHC LLC (A Surerus Murphy Company) (WHC) is seeking to recruit a Payroll Administrator. The Payroll Administrator is responsible for supporting the accurate and timely processing of weekly payroll for field and hourly employees. This role operates within a collaborative team environment where communication, peer support, and shared accountability are essential to ensuring payroll information is complete, accurate, and processed within required deadlines. The position regularly collaborates with HR, Operations, supervisors, and project teams to support weekly payroll activities. This position requires strong attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to work in a fast-paced construction environment with tight payroll deadlines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Process weekly payroll for hourly and field employees
  • Review and validate employee timecards, hours worked, earnings, allowances, reimbursements, and payroll adjustments
  • Follow up with employees, supervisors, and project teams regarding missing, incomplete, or inaccurate time information
  • Maintain employee payroll records including rate changes, direct deposit information, tax elections, and other payroll-related updates
  • Process employee terminations and final pay in accordance with company policies and applicable payroll requirements
  • Process garnishments, levies, child support orders, and other payroll deductions as required
  • Review payroll information for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company policies and applicable payroll requirements
  • Prepare and review prevailing wage payroll reports and related supporting documentation as required
  • Pull and distribute payroll reports for management and other internal stakeholders as required
  • Respond to employee payroll inquiries professionally and confidentially
  • Work collaboratively with payroll team members to meet weekly payroll deadlines
  • Coordinate with HR regarding employee status changes and payroll-related updates
  • Maintain payroll procedures and support process improvements
  • Support internal and external audits by providing payroll records and documentation as required

Note: In addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the company.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
  • High School diploma (or equivalent) is required.
  • Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) designation, or willingness to pursue certification
Experience
  • Minimum 2–4 years of payroll experience preferred
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas considered an asset:
    • Construction payroll
    • Prevailing wage payroll
    • High-volume weekly payroll
Skills and Knowledge
  • Solid understanding of federal and state wage and hour laws including payroll, taxes, withholding, deductions and garnishments.
  • Experience with payroll systems and timekeeping platforms
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced construction environment with tight payroll deadlines
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with payroll, HR, Operations, and project teams

WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is based out of our Lafayette, LA office and requires regular in-office attendance.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Payroll Administrator reports to the Payroll Manager. Works closely with payroll team members, HR, Operations, Project Management, and accounting teams.
