Payroll Analyst – New York. NY

We are seeking candidates for an experienced Payroll Analyst position to join a leading private equity firm located in New York, NY. The Payroll Analyst will join the firm’s Global Payroll team and serve as a subject matter expert for payroll processing across the Americas region while supporting global payroll operations as needed. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, maintaining payroll system configurations, supporting year-end reporting, and partnering with cross-functional teams including Treasury, Accounting, Tax, Global Mobility, and HR to deliver best-in-class payroll operations.

This is a 4+ month contract position that will pay $40-50/hr (depending on experience) within a 40hour workweek. Qualified candidates who are 100% Remote located on EST will be considered.

Responsibilities:
  • Process semi-monthly, in-house payroll for approximately 2,000 salaried and hourly employees in a multi-state environment.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for payroll processing throughout the Americas region and assist with payroll operations in other global regions as needed.
  • Calculate and process payroll adjustments, including overpayments, retroactive payments, overtime, and benefit-related changes.
  • Respond promptly to employee and vendor inquiries regarding payroll, taxes, deductions, and related matters while providing exceptional customer service.
  • Partner with the Treasury team to forecast payroll funding requirements and ensure timely payroll disbursements to employees and vendors.
  • Collaborate with Global Payroll, Global Mobility, and Tax teams to support expatriate payroll transitions for employees going on or returning from international assignments.
  • Lead the reconciliation and preparation of U.S. W-2s and other year-end payroll reporting.
  • Assist the Accounting team with payroll journal entries, account reconciliations, and payroll-related financial reporting.
  • Maintain and update Workday Payroll configurations, including tax settings, earnings and deduction codes, and general ledger mappings.
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls, and efficiencies while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
  • Investigate payroll discrepancies, recommend solutions, and partner with management to implement process improvements that balance employee experience with business needs.
  • Support quarter-end and year-end payroll activities while meeting critical deadlines.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 3-5+ years of hands-on payroll processing experience, including extensive experience with Workday Payroll.
  • Experience processing multi-state U.S. payroll; international payroll exposure is highly preferred.
  • Experience supporting global payroll operations or multinational organizations.
  • Knowledge of payroll systems such as Workday, ADP, and international payroll vendors.
  • Strong understanding of payroll tax regulations, year-end reporting (including W-2 processing), and payroll accounting concepts.
  • Experience maintaining payroll system configurations, including taxes, earnings, deductions, and general ledger mapping.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to communicate effectively with employees, vendors, and stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment with quarter-end and year-end deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
