Position Overview

A healthcare organization in New York City is seeking a Payroll Assistant to support its central payroll operations team. The role is responsible for processing payroll for both hourly and salaried employees while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely completion of all payroll activities.

The ideal candidate will have prior payroll experience, strong attention to detail, and proficiency with payroll systems and Microsoft Office applications. This position also supports audits, payroll adjustments, garnishments, reconciliations, and reporting in a fast-paced administrative environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Process payroll for hourly and salaried employees accurately and on schedule
  • Assist with wage garnishments, deductions, and payroll adjustments
  • Prepare and maintain payroll transfer reports and supporting documentation
  • Verify accuracy of benefit deductions and payroll transactions
  • Perform routine payroll audits to ensure compliance and data integrity
  • Maintain and update employee payroll records in HR/payroll systems
  • Support payroll reconciliation and reporting activities
  • Assist with accounting and payroll-related projects as assigned
  • Respond to payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Ensure strict confidentiality of sensitive employee payroll data
  • Collaborate with HR and Finance teams to support payroll operations

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum 1 year of payroll or related administrative experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience with payroll systems (e.g., QuickBooks, PayChoice, Payroll Associates) preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and calculations
  • Ability to handle confidential information responsibly
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional experience in payroll or accounting functions
  • Experience in healthcare or large organizational environments
  • Familiarity with payroll audits, garnishments, and deductions
