Job Description

The hardest part of this job isn't the payroll — it's the 13 foremen.

A growing construction contractor is hiring a Payroll Clerk to own the weekly timecard collection and entry process for a field workforce spread across 13 crews.

The payroll itself is processed by a centralized group — your job is to make sure the data going in is accurate. That means tracking down 70 timesheets a week from field supervisors, catching errors before they become problems, entering hours into ADP, and booking the payroll journal entry.

You'll report directly to the Controller and work closely with foremen who are focused on the field, not paperwork. If you're organized, persistent, and good with people, the work is very learnable. The toughest part is the follow-up.

What you'll own

  • Collect daily field reports from 13 crews — 70 timesheets per week — and track down anything that's missing or late
  • Review timecards for accuracy and completeness; flag discrepancies and follow up with foremen to resolve them before submission
  • Transfer timecard data into Excel and key hours into ADP for centralized payroll processing
  • Book the weekly payroll journal entry
  • Maintain employee payroll records and process new hire and change forms
  • Coordinate with the Controller on anything that looks off before it goes upstream
  • Provide basic payroll support to field employees and supervisors

What you bring

  • Strong attention to detail — you catch things, and you say something
  • Solid Excel skills
  • Dependable and deadline-driven; weekly payroll runs on a schedule and the field doesn't always make it easy
  • Clear communicator who can work with foremen and field supervisors professionally and persistently
  • Spanish fluency a strong plus
  • Construction industry background helpful but not required — the field dynamic is real, and prior exposure helps

Why this one is worth a look

  • $19–$25/hour depending on experience
  • The company just acquired a Texas division and is actively growing — they mean it when they say there's room to move up
  • A culture that treats ambition as a feature, not a problem — if you want to grow, this is an environment that rewards it
  • Direct line to the Controller from day one — you'll be visible, not buried
  • Straightforward work with a real learning curve on the field coordination side — it keeps the job interesting
