Professional Division of
Spherion Mid Ohio is partnering with an established Richland County manufacturer to find a
Payroll & HR Coordinator to join their team.
At the heart of this role is weekly payroll and employee timekeeping. You’ll help ensure hours are accurate, make timecard corrections, work directly with supervisors to resolve issues, and maintain employee information within the company’s HRIS/payroll system.
Hands-on payroll experience is essential for this position. Candidates with HR experience but no payroll background are unlikely to be the right fit.
Beyond payroll, this role provides exposure to a variety of HR responsibilities including onboarding, interview coordination, employee communications, company events, benefits support, records, and special projects.
This could be a great fit for someone who enjoys payroll accuracy and deadlines but also wants a broader HR role where no two days look exactly the same.
What You’ll Do
- Support weekly payroll processing and employee timekeeping
- Review hours, identify discrepancies, and make timecard corrections
- Serve as a first point of contact for supervisors with payroll and timekeeping questions
- Maintain accurate employee information within the HRIS/payroll system
- Complete HR and payroll-related data entry, documentation, scanning, filing, and record maintenance
- Field calls and assist with employee and company inquiries
- Coordinate candidate interviews
- Assist with new hire orientations and onboarding
- Help prepare employee and company communications
- Support employee events, appreciation activities, food orders, and engagement initiatives
- Coordinate uniform distribution, tracking, and related employee charges
- Assist with benefits, workers’ compensation, safety projects, and other HR documentation
- Run occasional local company errands and support additional HR projects as needed
What We’re Looking For
- At least 1 year of hands-on payroll experience required
- Experience with employee timekeeping, timecard corrections, and payroll deadlines
- Experience using an HRIS, payroll, or timekeeping system strongly preferred
- Paylocity experience is a strong advantage
- PLEX experience is helpful, but not required
- Previous HR or HR administrative experience preferred
- Candidates from any industry will be considered, with manufacturing experience especially advantageous
- Strong organization, accuracy, confidentiality, and attention to detail
- Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with supervisors and employees
- Ability to manage competing priorities while consistently meeting payroll deadlines
- High school diploma or GED required
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field preferred, with equivalent experience considered
- Valid driver’s license
- Bilingual skills are advantageous, but not required
Excel & Microsoft Office Skills
Candidates should be comfortable independently using Microsoft Office, including:
- Creating and maintaining Excel spreadsheets
- Formulas, sorting, and filtering
- PivotTables
- VLOOKUP and similar lookup functions
- Organizing and reviewing data
- Creating basic reports and tracking tools
- Working confidently in Word and Outlook
Schedule & Compensation
- $25.00 to $30.00 per hour, based on experience
- Direct Hire
- Full Time
- Hourly, Non Exempt
- On site in Richland County, OH
- Anticipated schedule of approximately 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM or 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM
- Additional schedule flexibility may be available after training
